These descriptions can help you recognize reasons to call. They are not a diagnosis of the species or your property.
Subterranean Termites
Subterranean termite colonies are associated with soil and may reach a structure through shelter or mud tubes. Watch for earthen tubes along foundations or walls, swarmers, wings, and damaged wood.
Dampwood Termites
Dampwood termites are associated with damp, moist or decaying wood. Leaks, drainage problems and persistent moisture can create conditions that make wood more favorable to them.
A COMMON QUESTION
SEEING SOMETHING THAT LOOKS LIKE SAWDUST?
Small piles near woodwork may actually be termite droppings or pellets rather than sawdust. Unexplained pellets, discarded wings, swarmers or new wood damage are worth having inspected. A photo can be helpful when you contact us, but it should not be used to identify a species on its own.

Pellets or frass
Tiny, dry, pellet-like material collecting below a small opening in wood.
Discarded wings
Loose wings near windows, doors or other light sources after a swarm.
Swarmers
Winged termites appearing indoors or close to the structure.
Mud tubes
Narrow earthen tubes along foundations, walls or other protected paths.
Hollow or damaged wood
Wood that sounds hollow, feels thin or shows channels beneath the surface.
Visible deterioration
Blistering, cracking, softening or other unexplained changes in wood.

Can you identify termites from a photo?
A photo may help show where you found activity, but species and property conditions should not be diagnosed from an image alone. Request an inspection if you are unsure.
Does every termite concern require the same treatment?
No. The appropriate next step depends on what is found, where it is located and the conditions at the property.
